Hi, I run a good 40 time, unofficially 4.5.
When I run my 40's I am always around 4.5 no more then 4.6 even once got to a 4.4something. So I round it to a 4.5 for an average. Anyways my question is I have been studying the art of running a great 40 time, anyone have more tips for me? Also runningback tips are welcomed As far as good stance&start's, and qb/rb exchange tips on the best ways to obtain the ball from the qb. Any drills to work fast twitch muscles? Really anything for agility, speed, and runningback tips thank you in advance |

When I was in high school I ran a 4.38 and did very little running. I didn't care about football that much, I threw shot and disc, so most of my stuff was specific to that. 4 years and about 60 pounds later, I can still run in the 4.55 range, and some of the stuff I have found to be useful when I want to start peaking for speed are
5-6 sets of 1-3 heavy reps on power/hang clean 4-6 sets of 4-8 moderate reps of dead lift (with a straight bar, not a hex) Get a pair of starting blocks and do 10-20m blow out sprints Set up 30-50m worth of cones, and do 20-40m of actually sprinting with a 10m flying start to work up to full speed. I'm also 6'3" and have a long stride, so turnover wasn't an issue with me, I just wanted powerful strides. If you're short and need to work on your turnover I'm not sure this will be as effective for you. |
