The second pair are a bit lighter, and they look like they have better feedback ratings. I doubt there is much difference between the two other than the colors. I never ran x country so I couldn't really tell you what to look for in a shoe, but going off just the pages shown, I'd say the second pair.

I'd go with the one that fits the best and is pain-free.

Just based on styling I think the second pair is better.

I'd go with any pair of Aasics, but I think the shoes are all about what you want and what is comfortable, you shouldn't really ask other people which ones....You should pick the ones you like and that will work.

Couldn't agree more. Unless you are stuck on those two pairs, go with Asics. I bought a pair last year for track and they have been the best running shoes I've ever worn.

Can't argue. As per my other thread with me in search for some spike shoes, I currently use a pair of Asics as my meet running shoes, and I love them. Great investment.

There is a store in Idaho, not sure if it is specific to the location or if it is a chain, called Bandana's, they specialize in long distance sort of stuff.

Eastbay.com might have them, or you could try just going to any of the major branch stores, aasics are becoming more and more popular.

The nice thing about Bandana's is if you go to the store and bring your old shoes, they'll tell you exactly which shoes would be best for you depending on your personal stride. They do this by looking at the tread on your shoes to see if your stride pronates (goes from out to in) or supinates (from in to out). A lot of runners pronate. Pronating or supinating won't make you any slower, but in the long run (no pun intended) it could cause you some injuries.

To prevent this, make sure you buy a shoe that is very sturdy. This can sometimes be tough because finding a light shoe is also a determining factor in purchasing shoes.

The test I always do when finding shoes is I take the shoe and try and bend it in as many ways as it will go. If it bends easily, go for a different one. You can also check the center on the outside where the arch is. If the area there is pretty hard, you've got a pretty good shoe.

Great post, that is the most information ive ever read about shoes. Thanks.

New Balance are good shoes to for running, i dont know about serious x country running, but i find that for the running i do(on the street, or treadmill) the new blanace shoes are the most comfortable thing ive ever come across. And they come in very wide, i gots fat feet.

I take back my post from 2.5 years ago.

I got a pair of aasics for trail running about 3 weeks ago. They are the new most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. Very sturdy as well.

Well, I'm glad you liked them.

I still wear the same pair as before. I now have a good dozen or so pairs of them.

I wish I still had all my old shoes, but I ususally tend to wear them out by the time i get new ones. It would be nice to be able to cycle through them.

That and usually my dog gets to them.

I had a pair of those for the last 8 months or so. They were ok, they started to hurt my toes after a little while. I still wear them out and about, but not for running anymore.
